Alison: 50 years under the system
Alison’s story is a powerful and insightful story of one woman’s fight for human rights in New Zealand.
Born in 1942, Alison relives her traumatic past – her challenging childhood, growing up in various institutions and finally discovering independence after meeting Citizen Advocacy.
Citizen Advocacy is an international movement which aims to recognise, promote and defend the rights of people with intellectual disability.
Alison is now committed to leading a social movement to support the human rights of people who have survived similar experiences. Making and sharing her story through film in the way that she is already mobilising support in parts of New Zealand in a way that may never have eventuated had this story not been told.
